Religion, that's why. The same nuts that won't allow you to die with dignity will also not extend a kind hand and help when/if you need it

It is simple people will abuse it the same way they do with animals. Yes some people put animals down when itis not nessary.

Well it would seem like a kindness for some to die without hassle, with dignity. But tell me, how would you make sure that this would not be abused? How could you ascertain that people weren't being "put out of their misery" because they were inconvenient? Yes, I know, there are living wills, medical directives, etc.... and sometimes those work. Can't you see the potential for murder? Laws can't be written, nor legislation made to keep people from doing the unthinkable... until then, we'll all have to take responsibility for our own demise, or trust to medical professionals.

There is a fear that people will have the elderly killed out of convenience, or the mentally handicapped or any other person that an argument can be made will live a life of misery.

I believe in euthanisia. I think it is most cruel to force someone to live with excruciating pain, with no hope of getting better. It is cruel, unkind and evil. Unless you are willing to go through that pain yourself, you have no right to make judgments on what people should or should not do in that circumstance. Just my opinion. :)

We have assisted suicide in Oregon. It's beautiful and humane. It takes more love to assist someone w/this than it takes to stand by and watch them suffer. We have had this for several years now. As far as I know it is not abused and really a wonderful thing that I am happy my state allows.

We sometimes do. Unfortunately, it isn't looked upon as kindly.
