Can pregnancy test be wrong? I have taken two and both said negative but my period is still late, how long should I wait until going to the doctor?

False negative results are more common than false positives. A false negative result can stem from using a diluted urine sample and/or from taking a test too early in pregnancy. First morning urine contains the most concentrated presence of hCG - which makes it the ideal sample for pregnancy testing. Additionally, at the same gestational stages, women produce quantitatively different levels of hCG - which means that the first indication of a positive result on a home pregnancy test may vary between women, despite similar gestational stage. If you suspect you are pregnant, you should see your doctor for a blood hCG test no matter what result you get from any home pregnancy test.

I once did the home version (3 times) and it was positive then went to the doctor who said I was not pregnant (based on a urine test). When the nurse called to tell me I asked if she was sure because the home tests said I was pregnant--she chuckled and said they pretty much use the exact same thing one can buy at the drugstore. Get the blood test and see a doctor now. It's better to know. And it is a far more accurate test.

false negatives happen i myself took four pregnancy tests the month i found out i was pregnant (i am four months along today) and the FITH urine test came positive as well as the blood test. i highly suggest you head to a doctor and ask for a blood test to determine pregnancy. the blood tests are FAR more accurate to not only determine If you are pregnant but how far along you are

the only positive trues signs are a blood test, to show BHCG levels, and a scan, for visable. it will have a heart beat at 7 weeks, it will just be a blob before that. go to the doctor, find out once and for all.

Absolutely! I had 3 negative home tests & one negative lab test(blood test at 7 weeks)....but I knew I was! my 8yr old daughter showed the famly that I was right.....felt well smug ;)

i have a question i have been on fermara for 3 months and have had my period on the 30 day of my cycle every month since taking femara i didn't get my period this month i am 5 days late for my period i had a neg hpt and neg blood test but i just feel like something is different i am very sleepy and my breast feel heavy could i still be pregnant and how long should i wait before i call the dr for another blood test?

im in the same boat, nearly 8 weeks late, two test say im not preg. am going to my gp this week to find out for sure if i am or not or to find out if there is something wrong. i think its the only real way to find out! iv been off the pill for 8 months and its been a bit of a roller-coaster!! no one tells u when you go on the pill that it can be this hard when u come off! good luck to everyone im keeping my fingers crossed for all>>>>

It could be wrong...but it can also be that you are stressed, that would delay your menstrual cycle

Okay so my last months period was two weeks late and when it finally came, it only lasted 4days(very unusual for me)& it wasn't heavy as it usually is. Now this month I have waited around and it's the last day of the month and still no signs of my cycle. My breasts, stomach, and legs are getting larger, I'm also having uncomfortable feeling in my stomach area. I have taken a urine at home test, and that's negative. I'm wondering if it may be stress from finals at college or from work. ANY HELP????????

Yes, it can. False positives are far more common than false negatives. It checks for a hormone produced during pregnancy. A negative simply means that your urine didn't contain enough of that hormone to activate the chemical showing a positive. There are other reasons for delayed periods, though, so you should see a physician ASAP! Some of those reasons are serious, and you should be checked for them immediately.

just found out i have HPV virus stage 1 and had period 2 weeks ago but felt sick last night took test 3 times says preg, should i be worried with hpv or would the preg test show i am and really not with the hpv virus .

i would go the doctor asap as it could be hormonal i had my daughter 7 yrs ago then never had periods for 9 mths still was producing milk thought i was pregnant again i was suffering really bad head aches it was a tumour in my pituatry gland which was treated with tablets.i am now 7 weeks late on my period had two negative pregnancy test results so just worried incase tumour has came back
