Things turned out ok....the judge said that he does not have to pay child support since he did not adopt. Thanks for your reply Spicy!

His wife is the one that put the stop to it. I should have explained that better.
I apologize for my rudeness. As I child, my father also abandoned me, and when I was twelve I was disowned by my step-father (who had been with my family since I was 2). Prior to this he was planning to adopt me. So I have some remnant negative feelings about the subject, obviously. I should have asked for more details.
It really depends on how long they have been together, in reference to your question, but I would contact a lawyer if you want some info...it is really a gray area and is most likely up to a judge. If she is not letting him adopt him though, tell him to bring that up in court...I doubt they would make someone pay if they aren't getting the benefit of adopting their son.
