  • Depends on the cause of her not producing enough milk. Look up breast feeding for human mothers, you will find that the emphasis is on a well balanced diet eaten by the mother to insure that her milk is well balanced to the baby. This same concept applies to dogs. Also dogs will not drink enough fluids - they perpetually go on dehydration, only drinking when they are thirsty. We humans will drink to replenish water even when not thirsty or dehydrated. You should consult with the vet to rule out any physical problems the mother may be having, and too you may want to start feeding the mother more wet (canned) food instead of just dry kibble, not only to get more liquids in her but to get her to eat a little more.
