I have a last name I REALLY hate. No one understands why I feel this way, but it's making my life miserable. I don't want to take my husband's name, I want my OWN identity. I don't want to hurt my family but I HATE it!! Help!!

Use your maiden name and his last name, you do what makes you happy. Either way it goes if you have a child with this man the child is getting his last name anyways.

my sister went through a similar situation, and though she is married, she retained her maiden name. it drws attention sometimes, but she is stubborn and told her husband, a good fellow, that he can take her name if he wants. merry xmas to you

Sounds like you need to come to terms with your last name. Im sure its not as bad as you make it out to be. You should NEVER be embarrased about your name or who you came from. Thats not right. And getting married and taking your husbands name isnt so bad either. You have a new name, a new identity and you are able to not hurt your family in the process. I dont see why you cant get over yourelf.

Tell your husband you want to take your maiden name because you like it better. It shouldn't be a big deal, people do it all the time.

No, I should clarify... I'm not married, and I hate my maiden name. If I were to marry, I wouldn't take my husbands name, because I want an identity of my own. I doubt Ill marry, but if I did, I don't believe in taking a husband's name because I don't like the idea of being his property or an extension of him. I have a horrible maiden name.
