Do police ever monitor comment threads on big news stories? Some of the comments I've seen on the stories about Adam Walsh today have made me think that if investigators ran down the authors of those comments, they'd find some of the perps on AMW.

I don't know of any police agency that is actively "monitoring" comment threads on news stories. The reason that they probably aren't, is because criminals who are "on the run," don't have the time or the ability to utilize a computer, and would probably have no interest in reading/commenting on news items. They are much too busy, just hiding from their pursuers, to draw attention to themselves with posted comments that MIGHT be traced to them. The less public comments they make, the better they are able to hide.
