If you book early and reserve the cheapest accommodation and the other cabins do not sell, they will sometimes give you an upgrade. This is in their favour, as they would have a better chance of selling your original cheaper booking. That being said, if you wait until a couple weeks before the departure date, cruise companies in need of passengers will become desperate and start to discount their fares. You will find online web sites that will offer cheap fares. My advice is to make note of their rates and then contact the cruise line directly to see if you can get a lower fare. Often liquidators will buy rooms in bulk and receive a better deal per room and then will pass some of their savings onto you. Cruise lines sometimes over discounts to frequent travellers or to special groups, as an example, veterans. If you can arrange to have six or more couples (friends, family or whoever) book 6 or 7 cabins on the same sailing, there is also another possibility for a reduced rate. Always find out what your best option is by shopping around!

Cruiselines do vary rates depending on groups that are booked and most cabins are sold and re-sold 3 times before each cruise. If a large group cancels, then there will be lots of open cabins but if one books, it will make the remaining cabins a premium.
