  • Yawning can happen not only when you're tired but also when you're nervous, anxious, or your breathing is too shallow. But yawning is also contagious. If you're around others who yawn, you will get that urge to do the same. Also, it could potentially be a sign of your body being low in hemoglobin (especially if you've menstruated recently) or a symptom or iron deficiency, or a number of other things. Also, drinking a lot of caffeine can cause yawning (although this is usually also followed with fatigue).
  • a 10sEn is the AB Ninja Lounge Bartender has a lot of good info. I'll just add that yawning is generally your body trying to get more oxygen than it currently is.
  • It can also be a sign of depression when you're not tired. Or rarely, a symptom of a more serious brain condition.
  • I agree with the answers ahead of me and really the only thing I have to add is that sometimes it has happened to me when I've been over rested. You know, when you feel like a slug and don't seem to have any energy.
  • 10sEn has a good answer, and I'll add to that dry eyes. Yes, dry eyes. When your eyes are abnormally dry, your body makes you yawn like every two minutes to make your eyes water. This could happen if you're taking some kinda medicine with side effects, like eyes drying up. Weird but true. XD
  • Boredom, lack of a challenge in your life sweetie...hmmm not tired. Slept Ok the night before?
  • fatigue which doesnt mean u are tired just worn out i get it too along with the twitch in my eye
  • The latest I heard was that yawning may serve to cool your brain. I'm not kidding. Our brains operate more efficiently when cooler, so yawning can make you more alert. This might be why the urge to yawn increases when you see someone else yawn. It might serve to make a group more alert and better able to detect danger. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/06/070621161826.htm Experiments have shown that yawning is not related to oxygen deficiency.
