  • Servers are just PCs that have faster processors, more memory and redundancy in disks and power supplies. They use RAID controllers to service the disks and this allows the server to use multiple physical disks to form logical disks. If one disk fails then the server can continue by using the remaining disks to operate. This is accomplished by striping data across the 'array' then using parity to recreate the data until the faulty disk is replaced. The disks are usually hot pluggable.
