  • If you are using pencil, find a smooth surface, like Bristol board. If you have access to a printing shop, check out the Opaque, like Cougar Opaque 70# text or cover weight. For ink, you want something that has a very hard, smooth surface that won't let the ink bleed before it dries. Again, Bristol board might be what you would like. If you are using charcoal, use something that has some bite to it. Something with enough roughness to hold the charcoal as you draw with it. Not a hard or smooth surface.
