  • I am an assistant manager for Jewel Food Stores, the largest grocery retailer in the Chicagoland area. My single biggest complaint this time of year, is that people expect us to know everything about everything. I regularly get asked about some obscure product. The conversation often goes like this: "Where would I find X?" "I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that product. What type of product is it? "I don't know." "Who makes it?" "I don't know." "What is it used for?" "I'm not sure, its for a recipe I got off of the food network." I have about 80,000 items in my department, plus about another 100,000 items in the rest of the food side of the store (we are a combo food-drug store, I know nothing of the drug side). If you don't know what you want, don't ask!
