  • Oh yes. Cocoa is cocoa. Hot Chocolate / Drinking Chocolate is just a pre-mix of cocoa, sugar, sweetener and milk powder, yet it retails at sometimes twice the price of the 'real' stuff. Its just a rip-off. I like to be in control of how much milk or water goes in to the cup, and sugar too, so I prefer proper original cocoa (especially Green and Blacks Organic - heavenly!)
  • For hot chocolate, I pour hot milk over semi-sweet chocolate and add a drop of vanilla. Whisk to melt the chocolate. For hot cocoa, I combine cocoa powder, evaporated milk, sugar, and a dash of salt in a large kettle and cook until nice and hot and the bitterness has left (aided by the salt). Cinnamon would not be an unwelcome addition.
  • My packet of Swiss Miss says add water, there's no mention of milk. ;) I didn't know there was an actual recipe, other than adding milk or water. HONESTLY. :)
  • how do you make yours? I make mine with cocoa, 1/2 teaspoon sugar and milnot then add hot water!!! yummy!
  • Yes, I make cocoa from cocoa powder.
  • Always the old fashioned way..Instant just tastes odd..lol :)
  • I've tried, but it's hard to get right. Maybe the chocolate I used wasn't the right kind, because it didn't fully dissolve.
  • That's the best way!! I only use a mix if I'm at work.
  • We rarely make any instant cocoa. We always use cocoa and milk and sugar. If we make instant, we make our own instant with powdered milk and sugar and cocoa with some instant espresso powder and it's very handy to have around and tastes so much better than any instant stuff you can buy. We also make hot chocolate with melted chocolate, both dark and white.
  • In Mexico most people use cacao. Here I like to use Abuelita, a brand of bricky chocolate. It's grainier and more bitter. You stir it in to milk on the stove.
