How important is humility in Christianity? # http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/113874/252210 Yep, you are right this is much harder! :) ----- Here are my first links for humility in Islam: # http://islam.about.com/library/weekly/aa111998.htm # http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ds=qa&lv=browse&QR=30864&dgn=4&ln=eng # http://www.talkislam.com/iquotes/index.php?nCatId=246 I think the best quote to summarise humility in Islam is the following: "Humility is equivalent to submission to Allah. We should abandon all selfishness and pride in our human power, and stand humbled, meek, and submissive as servants of Allah above all else." Here are my first links for humility in Christianity: # http://www.philosophy-religion.com/cherbonnier/humility.htm # http://www.christianity.com/faith/1383596.aspx # http://www.pietyhilldesign.com/gcq/quotepages/humility.html This seems to be quite similar to the Christian concept of humility in the sense that both faiths draw their humility from being submissive to God: "Humility is not primarily an attitude towards oneself at all, but towards God and towards other persons. Briefly, it means the willingness to let God be God; that is, to acknowledge one's dependence upon His creative power; to rejoice in gratitude for His blessings; to adopt the ways of the Lord as one's own; to accept in contrition the judgment of God when one falls short; to trust His power and willingness to forgive and to redeem" ----- The concept of humility in Islam and Christianity is about recognising ones submissiveness to God. I think the only differences are in semantics. Something to think about: "I think Christianity encourages people to direct humility towards God, whereas Muslims are encouraged to be humble in of themselves in the face of God. It's a minor difference, but it means a lot." - Professor Sakhalinskii
