No cigarette maker tied someone down and forced them to smoke ciggys until they became addicted. They should not be held accountable for the utter stupidity of others. Anyone with a gram of common sense knows that sticking a tubeful of burning leaves in your mouth and then sucking the smoke down is not good for you. People who smoke are the same people who will hack and cough and move out of the way when a wood or charcoal fire in the BBQ grill spills smoke in their face yet they don't seem to make the connection to the Pall Mall in their hands. Smoking is just another part of Darwin's Theory in action.

No. I don't believe they're any more responsible for other peoples' actions than beer and liquor manufacturers, or fast food and junk food companies are.

cigarette companies are, actually, putting a lot of money into campaigns to create awareness on the effects of smoking and ways to quit. check: http://www.philipmorrisusa.com/en/health_issues/quitting_smoking.asp I don't think any money should come from the companies to the people directly.

Yes, they should pay for my quiting.I can't afford the products to quit, they cost too much.I started when I was 12, yes I chose to smoke because of peer pressure. Not a good reason,I now know how bad it really is and can't quit on my own.It is an addiction !! just like drugs, drug addicted don't pay to get off drugs, been there done that! It was easier to quit drugs. So yes the ciggarette company should pay for me to quit. After all how much of my money did they get over the years???
