  • you need to major in a science field for pre med and maybe minor is psychology. FOr med school you need a LOT more science than a psyc. degree will give you.
  • While it couldn't hurt to take some abnormal psychology and counseling courses, they're not required of people who are going into psychiatry. That's because psychiatrists are medical doctors. They receive all of their training during residency. You should definitely be taking the pre-med courses (e.g., biology, chemistry). Maybe you could minor in psychology unless your college/university doesn't offer pre-med as a major (in which case you could major in psychology while taking all of the pre-med courses). Hope this helps.
