You should get something that he would read. Does he have hobbies besides video games? A more advanced adult novel would be good. You could even get yourself a copy, and read it together. If hes mature, you could get DaVinci Code or Angels and Demons. Theyre fun novels... theyll get his attention quick... good vocab builders... and even some history. Even if you dont agree with the politics and religious views, you could go over why you disagree.... Generate some deeper thought and world views. My sons only 10, but im slowely start trying to get him out of the kiddy world of video games and into the adult world. He'll never drop the games... I even play once in a while. But there should be a balance... And if learning is fun, hes going to WANT to learn when college time comes.

I have a 50" Samsung with an xbox360, PS2, and a wii. I'll tell you the monitor has everything to do with the new game systems. Why buy an Xbox360 when you have a 26" tube, lmao! Buy him a nice TV for his video games

get him a teen rated game like mercinaries 2, mirror's edge,graw2, the force unleashed or battlefeild bad company. he should also be able to play halo 3 (if he doesn't have it already). If he has a wii get him legend of zelda (very fun game) or mario smashers soccer. it really is up to you to find out what game system he has and his parent's restrictions on video games. check out the gamestop website and it will charactorize games by it's system, price, and esrb rating. I hope you are able to find the gift that will make him happy and thank you for reading my answer
-
I would say introduce him to reading. start with War and Peace. It has all the violence a young boy needs and it will keep him as inactive as video games for a very long time.

A lump of coal with a note that says "Santa watches you while you masturbate."
