My sister is a police officer and she got me into Geocaching. My sister agrees with Dave the Mag's answer that you tell them the truth. But if you don't you won't end up in jail, you will just have to talk to them a lot longer. Some, not all police officers are award of the sport.
You tell them exactly what you're doing. Anything else and you'll end up in jail.
You could tell them what you are doing. They read the papers and watch television as well, you know.
Reading the Geocaching Guidlines will help shed light on things for you.
No Need to cover up Anything. Unlike "Somepeople who post here , most people , especially the Cops will be more than understanding, provided you arent wearing a burka and strapped with TNT while caching around the airport.
Happy Caching !
Tell them you are looking for your business and if they want they can look somewhere else for theirs, cause it aint over here!
if they show up tell them what geocaching is that way you dont get into trouble
You could tell them you lost something (piece of jewelry, cell phone, pack of cigarettes, whatever) and were looking for it. Depending on where the cache is hidden that could work.

Could any of you please explain to me what Geocaching is, how to play it and how to win it? Also, is it played for prizes, money or both? Is Geocaching hard, easy or in the middle to play?

You're reading I just started Geocaching. With terrorism going on in the world, what do you tell the police if they show up to see what you are up to?

Yeah, I figured the truth is best. I wonder how long you would have to explain it to a Police Officer that has never heard of it? Especially if your Geocaching at night.
