  • You could tell them you lost something (piece of jewelry, cell phone, pack of cigarettes, whatever) and were looking for it. Depending on where the cache is hidden that could work.
  • You could tell them what you are doing. They read the papers and watch television as well, you know.
  • You tell them exactly what you're doing. Anything else and you'll end up in jail.
  • My sister is a police officer and she got me into Geocaching. My sister agrees with Dave the Mag's answer that you tell them the truth. But if you don't you won't end up in jail, you will just have to talk to them a lot longer. Some, not all police officers are award of the sport.
