  • You can take the one present that they really wanted. Wrap it in a box, Inside a wrapped box, inside a wrapped Box, Etc. Makes them take a long time to open the one present they really wanted. Or put a rock you painted black in it. They spent 15 mintues to open up a piece of coal. Everyone gets a good laugh, I have done that to my youngest daughter for years.
  • Classics: slinky, gyroscope, kaleidoscope, skittle bowling(You try to hit pins with a pendulum). You said non electronic but having younger kids tape record older relatives can be rewarding. Although nowadays its probably all on somebodies video anyway.
  • Freestyle brainstorming: -- How about having lots of decks of cards around? Lots of possible games. Some for young vs old. Some great for several generations - same game. Example: Go Fish for younger ones. Poker for older ones. Rummy for everyone. Ever heard of Liverpool Rummy? You use one less deck of cards than the number of people playing. Fun to have about 8 people playing that one. lol -- Variants of card games - quick and easy but fun - like Uno. -- Classics like Sorry or Yahtzee or even Twister -- Maybe do some advance planning (and work) then have a scavenger hunt? -- Have everyone put onto a team that exists all day long. Maybe red and green teams? Keep a running score of various things happening throughout the day. Teasing acceptable. lol Have some fun thing at the end .. like .. ummmm .. losing team has to deliver desserts to winning team members? Or? -- Ok. Floor officially open to more brainstorming. :)
  • ive always thought charades is a classic. or how about everyone putting on a talent show or doing stand up routines? board games are always winners ~ backgammon, go, checkers, chess, chinese checkers, monopoly, life, scrabble, sorry, parcheesi, stratego, boggle, mastermind, yahtzee, balderdash, times up, taboo, jenga etc. card games might be up your alley ~ uno, texas hold em poker, gin rummy, etc. the game fluxx is a hoot! scavenger/treasure/gift hunts for the kids might be fun too. simple pleasures like playdoh, coloring, legos, etc. may keep the really young ones occupied.
  • Hi Rollie! i know this is late, but you should get your family "You've Got to Be kidding" game. The boys would love it. My boys do. We got it for Christmas. Easy and fun - can play in about 30 minutes for four players or 4 teams. When I was a little girl, my brother and I LOVED to play Old Maid with my grandparents. My grandfather would always end up with the Old Maid card and he had such a wonderful spirit about it. We would laugh and laugh at his antics. It created great memories for us. Another great game for our family is Kids Battle the Grown-Ups. The premise behind it is to pit the kids against adults to answer questions. It's VERY interactive and can be played by a whole group of all ages.
