I would masturbate and spawn sex slaves all day long. Eventually these poor minions would gain sentience, and they would worship me as a god. Slowly I would grow either fatter and fatter, or more and more fit (sex is healthy, right?), until either my heart exploded, or I became ruler and supreme overlord of my own world full of sentient sex-bots. They would do my bidding, and service me, and it would be wonderful. I'd be like a super-villain, only I'd stop trying to apply myself once I realized jsut how useful a good minion is for those lonely nights in the middle of deep space when the hottest thing near by is either a group of Ferengi or Whoopie Goldberg.

Great question. To begin with, I don't think people would become lazy. People wouldn't need to be lazy because they would be having fun. People would pursue the things that they enjoy, and have unlimited resources with which to do it. If you enjoy working on cars, you can do that all you want, only you will never need to wait for a part to be delivered or put the car on blocks because you don't have the time or money to do everything you want. If your passion is molecular biology, you can pursue that all you want, only you won't have to wait for research grants. Etc. The main difference, I believe, is that government would almost entirely collapse. After all, you no longer need anyone to allocate resources, you wouldn't need a guarantee of a job, or health insurance or any of the traditional things we have governments for. If no person needs anyone else's help to provide for every need and want, why would government be necessary? Crime would drop drastically, as most crime has roots in poverty or need. Even blue collar crime would disappear as there is nothing left to steal. There would probably be some crime, but it would be minimal and rehabilitation would be favored to retribution. Laziness would still exist, but people would have fewer needs for the escape that laziness provides.

It is the interdependence that keeps our society together. If we were to be independent of one another in respect of our food and energy requirements the society as we know it will cease to exist. It will disintegrate. It is the food chains and power lines that keep us together. On the other hand if we were to free ourselfs of the shortages of food and energy it will be for the better for everybody as most of the worries of the world today will be over on a permanent basis. WE are not likely to be lazy as a result of this freedom. Humans are creative by nature. People will start doing things more creatively with most of their worries eliminated.
