Let them call whatever they want to call each other. That is their business. We should not label them. They are not offended by their own colour as they know the other person is of same origin, but when others say, they are being marginalized. I hope I am making sense to you.

It is a term usually used as a casual way of identifying someone of a "brotherhood" with another. This started as white racist slander, but is now, although frowned upon, used as an african-american conversation transitive, assertive, or additive. When a white person says it, it can be associated with racism and it usually is regardless in certain cases, that's just the way it works.

Same reason it is OK for you to call your sister a name, but when somebody ELSE does it, you have to defend her.
-
While on one hand I can agree with someone who stated this is a way to show brotherhood or assertiveness among some black people.. I know many black people who are equally confused, hurt and angry when black people choose to use this word to address each other. No one should use the word if you ask me.. it should never be a matter of it being ok with one race and not another. It is a derogatory name to call ANYONE.

it is truly interesting how this word has evolved in the american lexicon...rapper/actor mos def said something to the effect that he found it interesting how the word once was used to exclude black people from society, but now society has changed so much that the black people can use that word to the same effect it was used on them.

They're mocking the word.

i always asked my self that question and never came up with anything. i have many black friend whom i usually call my N***as, they dont get offended when i do it but when someone else does it they do...i always tell them its very childish and ignorant...if the word is offensive to them than they should not like to be called that by anyone. if i was ugly and i dodnt like to be called that cuz it offended me, i would like it coming from anyone...noit even the ugliest person alive.

I am Black, and I don't approve of anyone, no matter what their ethnicity is using the word nigger. It is not good for anyone to use it, no matter how they use it. I refuse to use it.

I am white and when i have heard people use the word i have let them know that i found it offensive. Some will try to justify it by saying a white person can be a "n" too. these people are only making bigger asses out of themselves. Bottom line is it is an offensive, derogatory, and racist. It has no business being used by anyone, of any color, for any reason.
