  • to be more specific, I pet her normally to lightly, but it doesn't matter - her skin seems to twitch when I pet her, and she will growl and turn to bite my hand, even with the lightest petting.
  • Does she do that when she lays down? Or move funny as she does? If not, you just have a cat that dislikes contact. I've had them. My last cat, in fact, adored being near you, as long as you did not touch him. To touch him was to need first aid.
  • Female cats often don't like being held or picked up. In the wild they are loners protecting the kittens from all types of predators including male cats. Affection isn't part of their condition. However, she will come to you when she feels like it for affection and comfort. It has to be her idea. She will want to sit on your lap or in bed sleep against your legs, but there has to be a solid foundation or avenue of escape until she entirely trusts you. Gradually when she hops up, you can find out where she likes to be petted or scratched, never on the belly. You'll know when she entirely trusts you if she ever rolls on her back and relaxes there for a bit. Good luck.
  • I have 3 cats(all "fixed"). The 2 males are very lovable. The female is psychotic around them. She does not even want to see them. If I have petted them and not washed my hands before I touch her she will hiss, growl, etc. if she even catches one whiff of them on hands or clothing. So there's something to consider.
