Zero to six figures. I think that the national average is around $45K at present. Top producers routinely make well into six-figures, but they are the exception, not the rule. Realtors work on commission only. Many have earned precious little due to present mortgage and real estate market conditions. We have lost nearly 40% of licensed individuals this year. Let me put it this way. I have been burdened with $8 million in executive model home listings for the past year. They range in price from $450K to $700K and have all been market down $100K to 200K over the past 9 months. You cannot imagine the amount of wasted time and money I have tied up in these losers. They are all now priced well below replacement cost, and are still not selling. In the mean time, I sell $100K to $250K properties with far greater regularity. If you want to break into the field when seasoned veterans are leaving, you will need at least six to twelve months cash reserves, plus a couple thousand dollars for up-front fees. I would never encourage anyone to enter the field at this point in time.

There are a few things that factor in when answering your question. 1.) Location. 2.) Individual work ethic. The average commission paid out currently is 3%. Occasionally, your commission may be 2 or 2.5%, most times it is 3%. If you close on a house that is 200K, that's anywhere from 4-6K in commissions for you. If you apply yourself, again individual work ethic, you can close at least two of those per month. That is a worst case 8K in income per month. Most houses that you list and sell will vary in price thus making the commissions different. If you are considering going into Real Estate now is the perfect time to do it because the market is so slow. This will give you a chance to learn your work, you can learn contracts, you can learn about marketing, you can learn about strategies for closing the deal. You will learn what clients to fire, as they become a drain on your resources. You learn which clients to keep as you will get a feel for people and how people respond to you. If the market was too fast you wouldn't be able to learn the skills you need in order to be successful as a real estate agent.
