The safest thing for you to do if you do not want to get pregnant soon after the birth of your baby is to use a contraceptive. If you are exclusively breastfeeding it may keep your period at bay for a while and could prevent pregnancy, however, this will not always work. It is possible to have another baby 10 months after having a baby, so fertility after childbirth can and often does return quickly.
