It is impossible to predict the impact of such an event, because, since it is a future event we do not know the state and influence of religion on earth at that time. Since you speak of first contact and not first knowledge, it is also possible that we will long have know of thier existence long before contact could take place. This could siginificant reduce the impact of first contact.

You are confusing the belief in a bunch of stories with morality. There are populations that are not familiar with the Bible which don't have any more crime and in many cases less than those that do.
-
Probably so, but it would just be Ole Scratch up to a new trick.

Is this a joke? First of all, plenty of things have come to pass that SHOULD have made people realize that the Bible is just a story book...people will find a way to incorporate aliens into their religions, don't worry about that. Secondly, Countries with the highest percentages of self-reported atheists typically have the highest standards of living and the lowest rates of violent crime, despite their lack of fear of this or that god. This link shows number of people who identified as atheists/agnostics by country http://www.adherents.com/largecom/com_atheist.html This link shows crime rates by country - (pay special attention to murder and rape rates as opposed to overall crime rate, which may include non-violent offenses) http://www.nationmaster.com/cat/cri-crime I would submit that if you are only being good to get into heaven (a reward for yourself) or to avoid hell and torment (also an act of pure self-interest) then you are not truly being "GOOD" at all. That is just psychological conditioning to achieve personal welfare.

The Genesis story is about how God created the Earth. I don't see how being visited by aliens would have any impact whatsoever. Who knows, the aliens may even have among them some who have a similar creation story to ours.
-
I could just picture humans trying to explain to the non-humans how they were 'created' from a heap of dirt in 6 days by an invisible dude - ROFLMAAO!
-
I would think it a confirmation of the accounts of the Nephilim in Genesis. An encounter with an alien race would probably serve to reinforce people's beliefs rather than shake them.

I never realised that the .er... current low level of criminal activities was due to a fear of God. What you must understand is that there is already evidence in Genesis of these advanced non-humans making contact with us: Genesis 19:9 "Get out of our way," they replied. And they said, "This fellow came here as an alien, and now he wants to play the judge! We'll treat you worse than them." Genesis 23:4 "I am an alien and a stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead." Genesis 28:4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now live as an alien, the land God gave to Abraham." And again in Exodus: Exodus 2:22 Zipporah gave birth to a son, and Moses named him Gershom, saying, "I have become an alien in a foreign land." Exodus 12:48 "An alien living among you who wants to celebrate the LORD's Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised Exodus 12:49 The same law applies to the native-born and to the alien living among you."

Something adversely impacting the accounts of Genesis and the Bible would hardly be apocalyptic. There are many philosophies, theistic and atheistic, that provide moral and ethical frameworks to living. Some people don't need to "fear God" in order to be willing to do what is right.
-
People don't fear god. People fear the police.
