  • 20 minutes of panic.Get GPS chip at vet
  • we had a dog when I was a child that was stolen from our backyard. (she was on a chain, in a fenced yard, before she "disappeared") she came wandering down our street, dragging a length of rope a couple months later. we kids were playing in the street and saw a dog wandering down the street and ran to it, she had grown since we saw her last but she had an unmistakable scar on her nose from a litter-mate who bit her. we all yelled and hugged her and she bawled at the top of her voice, wagging and licking us! i've never heard a dog make that sound before or since, she was so happy to be home!
  • Six-weeks. Emily Sara (Millie) our long haired Calico cat just disappeared one day. She came back looking well fed and her long hair was clean and combed. She acted as if she hadn't even been gone. She moved into a different house with us and never roamed again. Her son, Julien Henry, disappeared for a month before we moved and came back looking scruffy the day of our move. We moved and he was gone within a week. Never saw him again. We no longer let our cats roam.
  • my Tom cat disappeared for 2 years after we got a jack russell - he didnt like him, then one day he appeared in the garden shed, just sat looking up at the house - but when we went near him, and gave him a bowl of meat he was growling and had gone a little 'wild', there was no way we could entice him indoors.
  • Dog...few hours. Cat...few days¬¬
  • I've lost him for good.
  • Our cat disappeared, around Christmas about 2 years ago. About 3 months later, he appeared on our back window-sill. Seemed a little strange, and a bit indifferent, like he knew us and the place, but he still didn't fully remember us. But he's still here now and back to him usual self. ^_^
  • Dead shit doesn't come back.
  • We have lost animals for good to many of the predators who inhabit our area. Coyotes, Fox, Hawks, Fishers. But we have one cantankerous cat - Bob who seems to have more than nine lives. I cannot tell you how many times I have given up on him returning. But he always shows up. Sometimes with a tattered ear, some new gash, or missing fur, somehow he makes home everytime. His longest disappearance was about two weeks.
  • About 2-3 years. We think someone kept him for a house pet for awhile but then he manage to escape and find his way back home.
  • One of the cats I have now disappeared for about 2 months. My father had a cat that was gone for over 2 years before he came back.
  • One time my cat got out. We live in the country, so we normally let our cats come and go as we please. But this cat had severe allergies and was afraid of everything, so we always kept her in. One morning, the cat was gone, and one corner of the screen was pushed out of the window. Since she always laid in the windows and leaned on the screens, we assumed she fell out. We looked for her that morning, but we had to go out of state for my cousin's wedding. So, we didn't get to look for her again for a couple days. My sister ended up seeing her running into the barn after we had been home for about a day. It took forever to coax her out, and she couldn't stop trembling for about an hour, but she was alright. We're pretty sure our older cat did some hunting for her, because we found some half-eaten rodents around the yard, and the other cat never left anything half-eaten.
  • Yes, they have always come back eventually (except the ones that got killed in the street). The one that was gone longest was about 10 days, but when he came back he couldn't move it's tail. I took it to the vet and was diagnosed with a broken back. I had expensive surgery done on that cat, but he ended up dying anyway.
  • Yes when I was younger our cat went missing for 2 weeks, he was found locked in a neighbours shed
  • My daughters English Shephard disappeared for 8 days.(The longest 8 days of my daughter's life). Then on a Wednesday when my daughter got off the school bus the dog was there waiting for her as usual...
