  • The closer you can come to giving your cat a natural diet the better. And don't overfeed the cat. Make sure it has exercise and toys, too. Give it food that has no carbs in it, no grains or veggies if possible. Find a cat food that has no gluten or make it a raw diet with meats and bones, again raw, no cooking. That will be the healthiest and also help to prevent the cat from becoming diabetic as it ages. Cats are obligate carnivores meaning they must eat meat and don't have the amino acids to digest grains and plant foods.
  • It isn't so much in the brand as in the amounts you feed. After spaying a cat should get about a quarter to a third less calories. And exercise is important.
