The odds are low, but absolutely you can get pregnant! I had a friend and she was in her third tri-mester when she found out she was pregnant. That's 2 shots prior to finding out when she was already pregnant! Short of abstinence you can get pregnant taking anything for birth control.

It's extremely unlikely. Especially since it is no longer an intramuscular injection, making it harder for the person giving the shot to make mistakes.

  Oh and to better answer your question, it is more than 99% effective. I've never known anybody that got pregnant on it (I used to work in a sexual health clinic for a few years)
