If you are a newbie at crocheting and such, I would suggest to use variegated wool. That way the article will appear to have a design, but it is actually the color shading of the wool.

Check YouTube for some instructional videos on crocheting. Visuals might help you since you don't understand technical terms.

LoL...I have been crochettin forever, BUT...I only know 3 stitches, theres 1 that is prolly like the 1 you know...where its loop, through, grab, pull...through, through. BUt...this is just like that, but instead make your starters line...and then on your way back...instead you use the same method but run 3 in the same hole...skip 3, and then run 3 more...when you get to the end...go AROUND...instead doing 3 in the same hole...stitch out 2 circles...then 3 in that same 3 hole...and then crochette out...i dont know if that makes sense, cuz its hard to explain...but it comes out lookin really neato, little bunches...with little holes. Its cute. I have a crochette book...and I can look it up to explain it better, if you interested in this idea. It might explain how to for ya...(but I gotta find the book)
