Dante's Inferno is a piece of fiction. It has several allegories and illustrations that did not openly conflict with the teaching of the Catholic Church, which was the prevalent religion in Europe at the time it was written (1310 A.D.) The Catholic Church decreed in 382 A.D. what books were inspired and consequently "in the Bible" (a.k.a The Canon of Scripture). This list was re-affirmed several times over the centuries, most recently at the Council of Trent in the 16th century. Dante's Inferno is worth mentioning because it is very illustrative book to get an glimpse of how bad Hell is to people. In reality, the human mind can not fully grasp the torments of Hell.

Dante was around about 1300 years later .. interestingly he has a bit mentioning Limbo ... he attempts to answer the question of what happens to virtuous souls who died BC .... but Limbo was an invention of the Catholic Church which they decided recently did not exist after all! Which leads one to ask (says she pompously) - where are the pre-Christian good guys now?

1) Are you talking about the "Creation of the World", as it is related in the Bible? This is obviously a myth. Most of the Old Testament relates only very loosely to historical reality anyway. At least Dante's Inferno is a great poem. 2) Why is the New Testament worth mentioning when Jesus didn't live during the era of the writing of the Jewish scriptures (Old Testament)?
-
Why is "The Grapes of Wraith" worth mentioning when it wasn't written during the time of the vikings?
-
To answer in the shortest way...It's not worth mentioning. It's simply a poem about heaven, hell, and purgatory. Purgatory doesn't exist. It isn't found anywhere in Scripture.
