  • There are two ways to call something a "Gigabyte." 1 GB is technically 1024 Megabytes. However, marketing people typically call 1000 Megabytes a Gigabyte. So, if apple is marketing 4 Gigabyte ipods as 4000 Megabytes, your operating system, which uses the technical definition of 1024 Megabytes, will report less than 4 GB. 4000 Megabytes works out to be 3.90GB. Now when you take into account the software that has to be on the player for it to function (The operating system, directory structure, etc) it would be about 3.68 GB. So, in conclusion, blame the marketing people. What they have done is not illegal. Its just twisting the definition of a Gigabyte.
  • 'Cause Apple is a major company and everyone else are just people with ripped off iPods, wise enough not to waste time on sueing the Apple company ;-)
