Do I have to compete in the tournaments at the Coliseum?

I don't believe you have to, but you will certainly be missing out on quite a few extras, including a number of exceptional weapons and items that are only found/won there. I believe you have to participate in the preliminaries and be run off when Cerberus goes crazy and Herc holds him off, but I don't think you have to do more than that. In short, I believe that the best weapon in the game, Ultima Weapon, the best keyblade is won by beating the 50 round Hades cup (last one) solo, not to mention the fact that you get to fight Leon/Squall and then Cloud, and then both of them at once. Need I say more? Didn't think so.

The Underdrome rewards are: Pain & Panic--lucky ring, serenity stone. Cerberus--Rising Dragon keychain,protect belt. Titan--Genji Sheild, skillful ring. Goddess of Fate--Fatal Crest keychain,Orichalcum+. The Hades Cup tournaments are harder and not a requirement, unless you want the "secret scene" at the end of the game
