  • Spending $150,000 on wardrobes for one family (allegedly) is completely different than giving generous bonuses to staff who worked their asses off. Just my opinion.
  • He's no different than the rest. Did you really think he was yo?...
  • BLackberries are free when you sign up for the plan. Letstalk.com Whats the value in that??
  • It is left over money from his campaign that he is doing this with. I think he is rewarding them for all their hard word and the hard work that they will be facing because of they damage that has already been done. The computers and blackberries I would consider office supplies, it was the ones they were already using. Furthermore, it's reported that staffers also have the option of keeping their campaign-issued computers and BlackBerrys (but must pay income tax on the items if they do so). Sarah Palins wardrobe, was 95% for her, and 5% for the rest of her family. I do not think these re really comparable.
  • President Bush helped a lot of his campaign folks in 2004, moving many to the Republican National Committee payroll until December. The Blackberry's and computers had already been purchased. Staffers can keep them or not. And if they choose to keep the computers, they have to pay tax on the hardware. How can you fault him for being a conscientious employer and taking care of his staff during what is sure to be a very difficult holiday season for millions of people? These people are now unemployed and could be collecting unemployment compensation.
  • It only applied to salaried staffers. Instead of just dropping them the day after the campaign he gave them a month's severange pay-and let them keep the used equipment which would have virtually no resale value. In Texas he even gave (somewhat lame) parties for the volunteers 10 days after the election. It's called treating people somewhat fairly and building loyality? What would you have him do?
  • I think it's great he is rewarding his staff for a job well done. He should give the rest of the money from his campaign to charity or help Americans in some small way through these hard economic times.
  • You stated it just right in one of your comments in regards to the double standard & you are so right. Obama & the media made such a big deal about the cost of her wardrobe (which a huge majority of has now been returned). Obama's staffers may have worked hard & guess what...so did Sarah Palin, but somehow she deserved to be slaughtered about the cost of her wardrobe, while Obama turns around & gives out bonuses, computers & blackberries. Her clothes are going to charities and some returned to the stores. Seems like since Obama was so concerned with the state of the economy & how money was used, he could have found a much better use for the money & the computers & blackberries could have been sold and the money donated to charities. Yes, it is hypocritical!!
  • I can't speak for other contributors, but I have no problem with my measly $50 donation being used for whatever purpose the Obama campaign decides to use it for. How much of YOUR money is being spent? Perhaps they'll send you a refund.
  • Not at all.
  • Why? They presumably worked hard and won. Bonuses are often given under such circumstances. Ms Palin (and her family - lets not forget) got that stuff while billing her as a regular working Mom type. Therein lies their problem. +5 .
  • IF McSame had won (*shudder*), then it would've been equally acceptable for him to reward his campaign workers with the spare change he had left, if any. Unfortunately for your side it didn't work out that way. Enjoy your sour grapes.
  • He can't really spend it on his campaign anymore, so it has to go somewhere else. Might as well use it to make sure his staff has adequate hardware for keeping in touch with each other. And Sarah Palin has nothing to do with it, why even bring her up? Useful devices and 'pretty' don't even compare anyways.
  • It's interesting that the worst thing they could pin on Sarah Palin was spending money on a wardrobe. Did anyone ever look into how much everyone on the Obama campaign spent on clothes?
  • No. Sarah Palin kept saying she was a "Soccer Mom" and "Joe Sixpack." How many soccer moms and Joe Sixpacks do you know that wear over $100,000 worth of clothing in a month?
  • Welcome to politics. I wonder if they are planning on donating that to charity when they are done with it?
  • Would it have been better if he got himself a couple of Ferraris? How about Maseratis? How's about 7 mansions all over the world?
