read the first chapter...you should be chuckling by the end and you will know what the book is about

In Pride and Prejudice, beautiful and opinionated Elizabeth Bennet snubs the prideful aristocrat Mr. Darcy — until he helps her family avoid a potentially devastating scandal. In Pride and Prejudice Jane demonstrates her masterful use of ironic plot twists and flawless prose set against the strict social environment of Regency England. I would let me daughter read it (if I had one) but I would also let them read any great piece of literature no matter what the content.

I think "Pride and Prejudice" is a lot of fun. Jane Austen has a flair for characters, and hers jump off the page. It's about a family of sisters right around your age, and makes fun of the lifestyles and social regimen of the early 19th century in England. I thought it was really funny and it's also romantic. Definitely not to "adult" for you! Enjoy!

Pride and prejudice is a good story - but you might find the language a little offputting - it may sound a little old fashioned to you, so, if it gets difficult, imagine the characters saying things out loud in a pronounced english accent - that will help you fix on who they are and what they are doing. I enjoyed the book, but I am not really a huge fan of Jane Austen. I also enjoyed Emma, another of her books. It tells of Elizabeth Bennett and her misunderstandings, stubbornness, attraction and general falling in love with Mr D'arcy. Elizabeth is one of 5 sisters - during the course of the book we see them all go through the pains of finding love - because, frankly, that was their only purpose in life (bear in mind, at the time, the woman's role was to find a husband and marry - not just to have babies, but to remove the financial burden from their father) I will not tell you who marries whom, or indeed if the first line of the novel becomes a reality - that will spoil it for you. But do go ahead and read it - and let us know what you think!
