A billion? OK - but we will need to wait a few years until my hypotetical pet is in unbearable misery from arthritis or some terminal illness and I'll take him to the vet and collect my billion. Is that fair? I will get to it. I promise. Hold my money.

This is a touchy question. One of our beloved active members recently lost a family pet. The dog got away and was killed on the highway. He was terribly upset and is probably now beginning to get over it and then he sees a question like this. I hope he doesn't get sad. We like him very much and care about his feelings.

1 billion dollars is a hell of alot of money and could last you a lifetime if spent right but, come on killing your own pet. Yes, maybe. I say maybe because, Im squimish and probably couldn't bring myself to do it anyway.

It scares me to think I might miss recognizing sickness or suffering in any one of my 6 cats, to know when it's time to let them go. This comes to mind because I have 2 who are HIV positive, which is Feline AIDS. Cats are instinctively very good at hiding pain, to protect them in the world of possible dangers. "Kittie Bob" and "Old Man" were both diagnosed over a year ago, and while healthy, the slightest thing might be what finally compromises their system enough to be near death. Even with knowing their life might be short lived, or sickly in the end, I would not - could not - accept any money, even as much as a billion dollars, to kill them, EVER. While having the money would greatly help me at this point in life, and they might be replaceable to anyone else, they are all my precious fuzzybuttZ and I want to continue sharing my life with them, at least until it's time.

I would feel guilty for the rest of my life and probably wouldn't enjoy the money, but I would do it so my children could have a good life. I would probably kill myself for a billion.

There is NO WAY. My dog is like a family member and I am not that into money anyway. Granted..it would probably be nice to be rich, but if I killed my dog, I seriously doubt I would enjoy the money at all.

I would never be able to kill my dog or cat for any amount of money. They are just as precious to me as my husband and children. There's not enough money that I could be offered to do that to a family member.
