  • distantly, like back in the middle ages. I have one line that goes back through a lot of noble families to the Plantagenets (it is a common line, nothing special and, surprisingly, most US presidents come in on it as some stage), then to famous kings like Charlemagne and his ancestor Charles Martel (all europeans are descended from them). Another branch goes back through the kings of Hungary to Byzantium, to Armenia and eventually to the Emperors of China who ruled from Xian. I say again, this is a very common line and many many people have it. I was shocked to find I came in on it...

It is true because I saw it in a newspaper. All that happened before Cuba became a communist country.
  • This long, but I copied it from a book my uncle's writting. on us. Acording to my uncle my family is in line for both the Irish and Spanish throwns. My family name is Digman over here but over there it's Dignan, Dignum, Duignan, or Duigenan. We are descended from Milesius, King of Spain, through the line of his son Heremon. The founder of the family was Maine, ancestor of the Southern Hy Nials, and son of Nial of the Nine Hostages, King of Ireland. And our family seat is located in the present County of Roscommon and the village of Castlefore or Baile-Coilte-foghair in County of Leitrim. The O'Duigenans were the Erenaghs of the Church of Kilronan, in the barony of Boyle, in the County of Roscommon, and were also the chroniclers of the Clan Mulrooney. Magnus O'Duigenan wrote the "Book of Ballymote". Dubhthach O'Duigenan was the author of two long poems, containing the chronicles of the families of the O'Neils and O'Donnells for centuries. In 1339, Ferrall Muinach O'Duigenanthe started the Church of Kilronan. In 1588, Duffy O'Duigenan wrote a history of Sept of the O'Donnells. Patrick Duigenan, LLD., who was M.P. for the borough of Old Leighlin, in the Irish Parliment of 1797, was one of the King's Counsel, Advocate General of the Admiralty, Judge of the Prerogative Court, Professor of Common Laws in the Dublin University, Vicar General of Dublin, a Doctor of Laws, Vicar General of the Diocese of Meath and Leighlin and Ferns, Advocate in the Ecclesiastical Courts. John Ballach O'Duigenan was the last Chief when the family was dispossessed of their Kilronan patrimony. And then we had to flee. Add to that my great grand mother says she was related to Daniel Boone.
  • My mother told me that we are related to Jean Lafitte the pirate. She said that we cannot prove it because there are no birth certificates for her mother's family from her mother on up.
  • I am a descendant of John Proctor, one of the people who was burned at the stake in Salem. My line descends through his 2nd wife who died a few years before all the Salem hubub. The wife who survived was his 3rd wife (she was pregnant at the time of the trials, which worked to her advantage).

  • Yes, but if I tell, everyone will want something from me.
  • i am sure I answered one like this before, but here goes: On the one line we can trace really well, we go back through most of the medieval nobility of england, to the Plantagenets, to the Normans, to Charlemagne and his famous ancestor, Charles Martel, to the kings of Hainault (modern Belgium)Hungary, Poland, Russia, Croatia, the Khans of the Kumans, the Byzantines, the Armenian and Georgian Kings, the uighur Khans and the Emperors of Xian, China. Now this is not a unique line. Most people have it, though they do not know it. We were lucky to find the link on this one line. Other branches of the same line go back to the Viking lords of Scandinavia, the kings of Scotland, Ireland and Wales and the anglo-Saxon kings...if I have to choose one I really like being descended from it is Lady Godiva...and she didn't ride naked through coventry. She was extranged from her husband, who demanded from her that if she wanted him to relieve the taxes on Coventry and allow her to support churches and the poor, she would have to reconcile with him. So she rode in her shift ( a sign of repentance and humilty) through the streets of the town, ready to sacrifice her own body for the betterment of others.

  • An estranged, adopted cousin of my wife's claims to be related to Billy Ray Cyrus. • My mother always told me we were the poor cousins of the Reynolds (Tobacco Company.)
  • My Dad won the Pulitzer Prize in Photography in 1956 for a photo he took of the Andrea Doria sinking. He was also the recipient of many news photography awards over the years including the Graflex Diamond Award for the most significant news photograph of the decade captured using a Graflex camera. He was always very modest about his accomplishments in photography. He considered his greatest achievement in life to be returning to college at age thirty-eight, obtaining his degree, and becoming a school teacher. He taught for twenty-two years in inner-city high schools in the Boston neighborhood where he grew up. Additionally, I have done some genealogical research on my family, and have been able to definitively trace my ancestry back to the arrival of a Captain William Traske (born 14 Dec 1585, East Coker, Somerset England) to Salem, Massachusetts in 1640. Captain Traske then governed the Salem colony for sixteen years before his death. I also have a copy of a family coat of arms that was awarded to an ancestor in some war in Poland in the fourteenth century. This ancestor (originally from Scotland) was working as a mercenary for the king of Poland. During a battle, this Traske person found himself surrounded by enemy troops. In the heat of the battle, he broke his sword. He retrieved another sword from a deceased soldier in his troop and continued fighting. The second sword subsequently broke also. The king's guard then rode in and rescued him and his remaining men. In appreciation for his bravery, the king knighted him and granted him a coat of arms. The coat of arms has a lion that was featured on the Polish king's coat of arms, and underneath the lion are two broken swords crossing each other. Therefore, I am nobility...albeit Polish nobility :-)

  • Yes, I am. I am the 13th generation grand daughter of Pocahontas, or Matoaka. I am also a Sizemore. These people are from Kentucky and are famous for being highly spirited and mean as cat P. I was not raised around them and only discovered the origins of my "take no crap, no prisoners and always leave them wanting more" genetic disposition. Little did Pocahontas know that she opened the door for the slaughter of her people when she thought she was bringing peace with her marriage to John Roth. It's very difficult for me to celebrate the 4th of July now.
  • Well - I've always been told that I'm a descendant of Sir Isaac Newton. However, I've looked him up and found that he never married, and there were no children listed... so perhaps someone else in his family was the one further up in my family lineage - because it probably wasn't him. Possibly other people - but I honestly don't know.
  • Unfortunately not, but I pacify myself by thinking of the "six steps of separation". In that case, I am only six or even less steps away from the most glamorous, lol!
  • Adam And Eve
  • Like two of the other people who have answered, I have connections to Salem, Massachusetts or the Salem Witch Trials. My 13x Great Grandma Ann Greenslit Pudeator was executed in September, 1692 by hanging. There were 18 hangings, one torture death by "pressing" (crushing with stones to try to extract a confession), and several deaths in prison. (Plus everyone in prison, even before being convicted, had to PAY daily rent for being there). I am from her first husband, Greenslit. He died; Mr. Pudeator died; and she was a 70 - 75 year old widow with her sons living out of town when they came after her. She'd been working as a nurse and I believe her accuser owed her money and was eager to get rid of her because of that. (She had nursed his wife during his wife's final illness). The evidence against her was that she had several little jars of fat or lard in the house, supposedly to make devilish potions. As a nurse, of course, she WOULD have several jars of fat or lard around the house, to make healing lotions (with willow bark, for example, which has the same ingredients as aspirin). Grandma Ann defended herself at trial by pointing out that her accuser was a known liar who had been whipped for perjury just the year before, but it didn't matter: she was a widow with property, she spent a whole long hot summer in a filthy prison, she was convicted, she was killed, and the sheriff and her accuser profited from it. One of her adult sons tried to save her by offering testimony against someone else -- but the someone else was a man who was already dead. It wasn't enough to save her.
