  • It could be...because sometimes it is easier for people to talk to each other online rather than face to face...and that destroys their relationship.
  • I say yes, but only to a small extent. I don't believe they are destroying relationships or drastically altering them by large, but I believe there are some people who are facebook and myspace addicts, and like using the net to socialize and only that. If you mean that relationships, by large, are changing due to facebook/myspace, I say no.
  • I don't think that they are destroying existing friendships, or taking the place of real people you already know. What I think that the sites are doing is preventing those that are already socially awkward from going out into the real world. They have no need to seek out 'human' companionship when they already have long lists of 'friends' that they can communicate with online.
  • Yes: if and only if you are an introvert and you seek to use the Internet as a form of refuge. No: if and only if you have a number of healthy relationships in the offline world :-)
  • I DO have fewer close friends as I get older. I've never really given any weight to the internet as any kind of reason for it. I'd imagine, though, that when you meet someone or even when you talk on the phone, you are getting more non-verbal info - regarding mood, health, attention.
  • I don't think so. You can't go out to eat or to a movie with an internet friend. You also have a much broader range to find people that share your interests, conditions or lifestyles.
  • no. the thing is a lot of the losers out there wouldnt have a life at all if it werent for the internet. the problem is people let the internet become their life. i dont talk to any of my friends on the internet. internet service is for entertainment only as far as im concerned
