Computer troubleshooting is quite logical. Here's how to approach the problem: When did it work? When did it stop working? What changed in between the two? Whatever changed is a suspect. That's the best I can give you based on limited symptoms. And no, Microsoft didn't 'do' anything. However, don't discount any change as a suspect. Consider any changes to hardware, installed programs, Windows updates, un-installed programs, anything goes.

Hey gang, it's been a few months, but I did get it fixed. I got another dvd/cdrom module from Dell. It seems I'm not the only one with this problem. I even tried my work associates laptop optical drive module, it did the same thing in my pc, but not in his, Hell, I don't know why, but now I am good. SN-324S Samsung works, the sony 835 would not.
