it depends on how old you are, what your father is smoking, and how important you think it is to your mother. i dont think that you should hide things from your spouse, but i also dont think that those who arnt involved should take it upon themselves to let the other know unless it can hurt the other some how. maybe you should talk to your father first

The best thing that you can do is encourage your father to come clean to your mother on his own.

I would not get involved in it. Hard as it may seem to do.. it really is between them and if anyone should tell her.. it should be him.. when he is ready. He is probably ashamed and fighting an addiction to smoking (possibly).. you might be able to talk to him but he may feel defensive.. I would approach it with kid gloves and not in a way to make him feel bad.

make notes that will make your mom know, don't say it all like a tidal wave, just go drop by drop...

Trust me, she already knows on some level. I'm a two pack a day smoker, and my wife would DEFENETLY know if I had quit! If she really doesn't know, let him tell her in his own time on his own terms! It's his habit not hers or yours! Keep that in mind. It's a hard call when you love someone, especially if it's a parent.

If you are a child you have a right to talk with both your parents about any issues that are causing you upset or concern so i would advise you to do so.

If your Mother doesn't smoke, there's no need to tell her. She can smell it on him.
