worst part - Laventille / Debe / Scorpion & Haige Streets in Carenage / Anything east of Charlotte Street in the City / Sealots / Beetham why are these the worst? - Criminals frequent and live there. Gang warfare is at its worst here. And the poverty levels are at the lowest here. The Best areas - Ironically, Laventille, Debe, Scorpion all have some of the most scenice views of the island. So its a real case of the best land being populated with all the wrong sorts. now don't get me wrong. NOT ALL of the people living in these zones are criminals but the chances of an eruption in crime are (for a non-resident) higher than a safer zone. not that many parts of Port of Spain or Trinidad are extremely safe these days anyway. we have outbreaks of Kidnapping in Central, Gang warfare amongst many of the middle to lower income communities in the north (and this is what really sneds the published murder rate so high). Drug trafficking through the bush and coastal areas. So... where are you safe? - no where really. and everywhere. I say walk with God. Don't be foolish and try your best not to put yourself at risk by planning ahead of each location. If you get into a situation, give them the belongings - the most precious thing is life. Which you might have to leave for last and fight for it if necessary.
