  • I rather enjoyed it as well. John McCain is a class act, and I don't mean that as sarcastic. Just like in Vietnam, he fought the good fight, and even when a prisoner of the polls, he endured.
  • I agree he said it well and so honorably.
  • Not bad.:D
  • It's a great way to accept defeat. He proved himself to be a real fighter.
  • I would have voted for him if I could have...I respect underdogs not unlike myself!
  • He once again showed his integrity. I am still waiting to see Mr. Obama prove his.
  • It was probably the best speech he has given.
  • I thought it was extremely classy. Especially when the people started booing at Obama & he said no
  • that was the McCain i liked last year. Wonder where he's been?
  • Well of course he acted honorably. What was he supposed to do? Bash Obama?! What I found incredibly rude and disrespectful though, were the crowd members booing and name calling as McCain mentioned the next presient of the United States. Oh please, Republicans, don't be such sore losers!
  • I thought his speech was very decent. I was surprised when his audience boo-ed when he said Obama's name. He looked and sounded a bit put out at that and I thought that spoke well of him.
  • I haven't seen it yet - but I'm very glad that the tradition of conceding rather than counting hanging chads is back. +6
  • Very professional and decent
  • Yeah it's like a guy firing a gun at you, missing you by inches, and then going "well, I gave it my best shot, but I missed. I tried my best to hit you right in the head, but I guess I'm just a lousy shot. So my sincere congratulations to you, and I hope you make the best of not getting shot." F**k no! John McCain would have been a bad president, and Sarah Palin would have been an absolute nightmare. His intentions were bad or at least his judgment was seriously flawed. Either way what he should do is apologise for what he almost did to the world.
  • I thought he done a great job and showed what a class act he is. Too bad he was so old and compared to Bush so much, maybe he could have done an acceptance speech instead.
  • I think John McCain is an honorable guy. He seemed a bit out of character during the campaign. He is really a moderate and he doesn't look good as an attacker. I respect him but I'm glad he isn't going to be Prez.
  • I was impressed with his speech. He showed a lot a class that had slipped a little toward the end of his campaign. I have a great deal of respect for the words he spoke and the way he handled himself. The stern 'look' he gave his supporters when they started to boo seemed genuine. It reminded me of a father letting his kids know that he won't tolerate that kind of behavior. I believe he's genuine in his vow to help Obama and we can certainly use his experience and guidance.
  • All I can say is, I'm glad he lost!
  • Poignant is the word that comes to mind. The man is a class act worthy of much admiration and respect. A true American hero. I hope Obama is able to make use of his wisdom and experience as he navigates the difficult terrain ahead.
  • Senator McCain was the epitome of dignity, class, and graciousness. He showed us last night why he is very much a man to be admired.
  • Reading the answers (which I agree with all of them thus far) I came to the sad realization that if I had heard that speech BEFORE yesterday's election I may have actually voted for him. He reminds me of the person he was 8 yrs ago before he started to be the perfect Republican candidate. He had the better speech of the night and it makes me hopeful for the future of this country. I seriously started tearing up at one point...
  • I'm for Obama but i can say too that that speech was the most impressed i've ever been in him. that speech was phenomenal.
  • I thought that speech was a complete and total class act. In it, I once again saw the John McCain that I thought I knew and that has appeared to me to be so absent during this election. God speed, Senator!
  • it was a memorable concession speech! total class act! he was very honorable and gracious. very surprising given his recent vitriol and mudslinging. i especially appreciated him asking for americans to put aside their partisanship and divisiveness and come together to support their new leader. it was his best speech of the campaign. had he given more like it on the campaign trail, he might have won the presidency.
  • Great speech, the best one of his campaign. I was even more impressed because he was finally able to silence Sarah Palin; she was the downfall of his campaign.
  • I thought it was great! I voted for Obama but I still give McCain credit for his maturity and respect towards Obama. I could tell in the speech that he was very disappointed but he remained strong. I also love how he kept telling the audience to be quiet anytime they booed Obama. Classy.
  • Yes it was a good to great one. Too bad his supporters didn't, which is sad. The Republican party does not represent this nation, they are out of touch with reality and it shows.
  • It was very well done, and something that clearly came from McCain and not the GOP spin machine.
  • His speech was excellent and gracious. Unfortunately, it was marred by the booing and chanting of his supporters. You could totally tell he was like, ashamed of them.
  • I thought it was gracious and sincere, I was quite impressed with the man and thought it was a wonderfully written and executed speech.
  • At least he admitted defeat. At Indonesia, if the other party won, the party that lost would encourage his supporters to not support the party that won D:
  • I agree that McCain's concession speech was a class act. My suspicion is if *that* John McCain had campaigned, the election would have gone very differently.
  • I think McCain would have been a fabulous president. It is too bad that America didn't see it. Of course he acted honorably. Were expecting anything different.
  • I admired John McCain until the campaign turned negative. I am glad that he gave an honorable speech, that is the McCain that could have won.
  • As I said in another answer today, I really did admire his concession speech and the gracious tone of his delivery. I was pretty put off by the booing and chanting of his supporters, and from what I could tell, so was he. If McCain had just acted that way through his entire campaign, I think he would have earned a lot more respect from me.
  • Yes,he acted honorably.
  • McCain's concession speech was wonderful and only proves what a true hero in the American mold this man is. He came back to his honor, his love of country over self, and made me proud, once again, to be an American. People in other countries can learn more from McCain's speech about the American way than they will from the election itself. I know that Obama would have been just as gracious. This country is lucky to have these two leaders.
  • Agreed! I too thought it was GREAT!! The man has class. He was in an uphill battle the entire time.... & No I don't mean against Obama... But, because the state this nation is in. Again..... his speech.... AMAZING!!!
  • I'd like to know how they're able to make those ear pieces so small these days, and who was at the other end reciting the speech for him.
  • I thought it was very gracious and classy.
  • I thought that John McCain's concession speech was very, very gracious. Easily the best of his campign. Senator McCain handled himself and his supporters (in the crowd) very well, and was extremely respectful. As an Obama supporter, I always questioned John McCain's respect throughout the election, but with last night's speech, he proved to be a far more honorable man than I ever considered to give him credit for. It was definitely a night to remember, and his concession speech was a major highlight for me.
  • Unfortunately I missed it because I was working as a ballot clerk at a polling place from about 6:45 AM until about 9:15 PM. I'd like to see it if they show it again.
  • That was the McCain that I would have voted for.
  • I think he was very relieved to be out of it..perhaps he realized the enormous responsibility and didn't want to fail in such an important job. Losing a campaign is one thing..being inept and incomptent on the world stage is something else again. He was gracious and I think happy to be looking forward to getting back to his "normal" life. To that extent, I believe he was sincere..not what he said about Obama, but the underlying message..the other guy won.. and he, McCain, is not responsible for any of it. :)
  • I was shocked at how eloquent and thoughtful his speech was. It was better than anything he had uttered throughout the entire campaign. It was a lovely sendoff for Obama, and I was surprised to feel some respect for the old geezer for a change.
  • I thought it was one of his finest. That was the McCain I remember from 2000 and the one I was willing to cross party lines to vote for (as a number of my Democratic friends have voiced). I truly hope that he and Obama can work together to create real change.
  • i Loved his speech too it made me like him even more
  • Yes, I thought his speech was very gracious. I was especially impressed in how he reacted to the people who were booing Obama. I think this could have been a much closer race if John McCain had had a different running mate. I think she cost him alot.
  • It was very well crafted, yes.
  • He's a good guy and he knew he got beat. No use crying over spilled milk. There are lots of people he could have thrown under the bus, but he accepted defeat like a man.
  • It was so nice to see the old John McCain back. Apparently, at some point his campaign advisers convinced him to become Evil McCain. Maybe they thought it was necessary in order to drum up more funding from the far right. So he went negative and took on Palin. And it backfired on him. So painful to watch a good man cover himself in shit like that. I was shocked by the booing. Those must have been Palin supporters in the audience.
  • He really did a great job with that speech, and I think he would have been a great president.
  • He didn't win. And yes, it was a nice speech, but I would've appreciated it if he hadn't done so much Obama ass-kissing throughout. It would've been better if he'd have just thanked his supporters, said congrats to Obama and said goodbye. Instead he asked us to support a man who wants to destroy America. Sorry, McCain but you could've won it had you used the ample ammo that you had against Obama.
  • Yeah, I liked it too. I think he returned to the old McCain, the one who was a man of reason (not that i agreed with him all the time) before the neo-conservatives got a hold of him.
