What is the difference between a 'troll' and a 'sock puppet' on AB?

A troll is a person who comes to the site to disrupt the normal use of it, either through spurious ratings or offensive answers and/or questions. A sock puppet is a separate identity assumed by a user to either rate his own answers up, or anonymously rate someone else. Niether is looked upon with favor.

They can be one and the same, but are not always. Some people have sock puppets for benevolent and/or benign reasons. Some people have them to use for ugly, hateful, or self serving purposes. trolls are always bad, with one exception, our wonderful 'The Troll'.
