I cannot stand spiders in the least bit.

Its weird because I am not the stereotypical girly girl scared of bugs...in fact Im pretty tough, but for some reason spiders make me scream and run. It doesnt matter how big..its the look of them, and the way the crawl...
    UUUUgghh..
    its DISGUSTING!!!

I have Kakorrhaphiophobia- Fear of failure or defeat.

I am constantly trying to remain positive so I don't even THINK about faliure. The mere thought of faliure frightens me, makes me break out into a sweat, even. I don't really like talking about it as it makes me stressed, & I tend to get snappy.

I remember back when I was about 14 I lost a race at school; I cried for days & days, uncontrollably. Not to mention I got angry, I admit I may have even broken afew things with the anger! I just hate losing.

It seems pretty stupid, but it has affected my life in quite a huge way.

    I am deadly afraid of:
    1. Deep, dark waters
    2. Open closets
    3. SPIDERS
    4. The grudge
    5. Oh, and my friend's mom's house. It is SO filthy, I can't stand it. I was once in her kitchen and I saw a cockroach crawl out from underneath her cabinet and into some food they had left open. I was just staring with my mouth open in disgust. I almost threw up, I ran out of the house and waited for my friend to come out.

I'm Ichthyophobic. That is I'm afraid of fish.

I could also be accused of being cynophobia because I'm afraid of those godless killing machines known commonly as dogs.

But I'm more afraid of fish then dogs. Oddly enough I'm not afraid of sea mammels like dolphins. I love dolphins but fish freak me out.

Coulrophobia- fear of clowns. They really, really scare me
Contreltophobia- fear of being abused sexually. But I think that would scare anyone
Staurophobia- fear of crucifixes not really, but it made me laugh when I saw it
Aphenphosmphobia, Haphephobia or Haptephobia or Chiraptophobia- fear of being touched. It's not REALLY severe, but I do hate it

Failure and rejection. My dad and minister always reinforced the notion that I shouldn't stress even though everyone was watching and judging all the time so I should get everything right the first time, and that trying was failing. Rejection stemmed naturally from failure.

Birds. Any birds, but particularly seagulls and pigeons for some reason. I have actually risked getting run over, walking in the road to avoid a pigeon. The fear does extend to pretty much anything with flapping wings- I was scolded heavily by my Brownie pack leader for having a screaming and crying fit after she forced me to go into a butterfly farm when I was about nine and one of them landed on me.

This phobia is entirely my mother's fault and she knows it- she has a phobia of birds herself and because I saw her express fear of them when I was little I've ended up with this irrational belief that there's something to be frightened of. Both my sisters are also terrified of birds. We used to be pathetic when we all lived together and the cat dragged one in still alive. I have memories of us shutting the dining room door to let the cat kill a baby sparrow just because we couldn't bear to do anything about it - we stood there whimpering and shouting "I'm really sorry!" at the bird through the keyhole.

I am paralytically terrified of injections. My doctor gives free flu shots and every year my wife drags me down so that she and the doc can have a giggle at my expense.
Oddly enough, I have no problem having blood taken for tests and have given blood over 25 times (28?). So it's injections and not needles. And flu season is coming and there's two shots to get this year. :-{(

Snakes!!! When I was 8 years old my older cousins snuck me into a movie that was not meant for kids (they were baby sitting. In the movie a kid got bitten in the eye by a snake and then his whoe face came up in big pus filled lumps and then it split open! I had nightmares about snakes for quite a while. then, as if that wasn't enough, we went to a circus and th esnale handler wrapped a bloody great boa across my shoulders - totally freaked me out. A year or so later we went to Morrocco and there was a snake charmer who thought it was funny to suddenly jump up and scream and throw a black belt at you (so you thought it was a snake). I was so terrified of snakes that I couldn't even look at a picture in a book or on TV. I would become totally hysterical.

I spent an entire day sitting in the hot sun waiting for a huge snake to move off a path in the Amazon one time. That was when I decided I had to get over it. Now, I can be around snakes, I'm even OK with the fact that my kids want to get a snake (my husband isn't though!)

Needles. I have bad veins and anytime I need a blood draw or an IV (like when I was hospitalized for a week) it always takes AT LEAST two pokes to get it, sometimes more than that. I just never know how many times they will need to stick that needle in me, and sometimes the person will get it in, but not quite in the right place, so they'll wiggle it around for a bit before deciding to pull out and try again. I guess it's not the needles that scare me, it's the not knowing how long the hurt will last.

Yes. Lepidopterophobia, which is an irrational fear of butterflies (and sometimes moths). I'm not so terrified of moths and other flying insects as I am repulsed by them, but butterflies send me into a sheer panic.

It makes no sense. There is nothing frightening about a butterfly, but even a glimpse of something flapping out of the corner of my eye and I'll be off and running, screaming like a crazy person.

I'm agoraphobic, and antisocial, and deathly afraid of happy people.
Makes it very hard to find anywhere I can be comfortable, everywhere seems to either be too big, or too crowded, of too full of happiness, so I end up curled under a heavey quilt listening to R.E.M. and slipping in and out of consiousness.

I don't like driving or riding over bridges. This is probably because I can't swim. I really do not like elevators either, partly due to some bad prior experiences.

I can't avoid bridges or elevators so I just try to subdue the anxiety and deal with it.

You bet I do and it is Clostaphobia or fear of small, tight places. I'm not so bad about the small or tight places as I am about knowing I cannot get out when I want. If not, I can freak out. My daughter is even worst and she has problems with even getting on an elevator which I'm not bad about that. Elevators in Europe however are normally really small and one in Rome was so small that we could only get three people in it. My daughter and I took the stairs !

My phobia is of needles/having my blood drawn. The sight of the needle, the tightening of the tourniquet, the anticipation of the needle piercing my skin and hearing that sickening *splash* as the blood fills the vial, it drives me into a hyperventilating frenzy. This problem only extends to my own blood. I've drawn blood hundreds of times, I've assisted in surgeries and yet, I still pale at the sight of my own blood. It only seems to get worse as I get older. I think it started when I was six. I was bitten by a rabid dog. I had to have a series of injections in my stomach. I have a vague memory of being chased down a hospital corridor by several female nurses and male attendants/doctors. They cornered me, caught me and held me down while one of them did the injections but not before I sunk my fangs into a few of them.
    MORTAL WOMBAT!!!

I've recently realized that I have a phobia about broken glass.  It greatly upsets and disturbs me to see pieces of broken glass on the ground or floor.

Realizing that this is a phobia (in other words, an irrational fear or aversion) is the tricky part.  Broken glass is dangerous, and therefore, it is entirely rational to fear it to some degree.  It's only recently that I have realized that my aversion to broken glass is greater than is called-for by the degree of actual danger that it poses.
