I was homeless for a year and living with the homeless. The ones that bum money only want it for booze. I never drank, i was happy for some food. I watched my buddies eat from dumpsters. I would only eat from grocery store dumpsters, they threw out expired food. Most of the money i got, i found on the parking lots of stores, or quarters left in carts. I never bummed money. I tried to get a job, but businesses do not hire people that have no address, most people don't understand that. I would sweep the floor of a convenient store for a sub everyday. One day there was a man in the store that offered me a place to stay if i cleaned it up, i took it. It was a house that he rented. I finally got a job since i claimed it to be my address. After i got the place cleaned up, the man let me rent it from him for a year cheap. I can't thank him enough for getting me back on my feet.

I would not give cash to a homeless person. I will feed them and I will help them if I see they are sick getting them the help they need but I would never give money.

just because someone believes in God, doesn't mean they don't need help so I would but I have been homeless and I know what it's like. If they choose to buy alcohol, they have to live with that decision. I just do what I feel is right.

Sure, if I have some change to give to him. It's really none of my concern, or business, what he does, or doesn't do. Maybe he's too screwed in the head to stand on his own two feet, or if he isn't, he knows what he's getting into and it's nobody's job to start giving him the moral.
Those who feel otherwise aren't forced to give him anything, either.

In my opinion that says that the man refuses to work, even though he is most likely trying to appeal to religious people. However, whether I give to him or not is not determined by his sign.

Well I don't believe in God, but I used to be Catholic and I remember something about working hard on earth and earning your keep honestly, working to your potential, etc. So no, I would not give money directly to a homeless person. I would readily donate time and/or money to a licensed charity that helps these people and administers the money properly.

i never give money to homeless people. i sometimes buy them a burger or a sandwich if there is a shop nearby but never money. not all homeless people go and buy drugs and booze but a lot do so i dont take the risk. when i see some bum picking up a manky cigarette butt from the ground i offer them a full cigarette.
on the other hand, i used to have a tshirt from tshirthell.com that said "Why yes I do have lots of change, you homeless piece of shit, thanks for asking."

No. I have to earn my living. So should everyone else.
I also give to organizations that help the homeless, which are very helpful to those who utilize them. If someone chooses not to accept offered help, my obligation is over.

No, he has found a way to exploit those who have strong religious beliefs...A desperate person will do just about anything in order to eat and that goes for homeless people just as well even if the guy holding the sign does not believe in God...I guess he has got himself a good thing going...
