I need a Democrat's pt of view: What do we do with capable ppl who REFUSE to work for a living?

Let them become homeless I suppose. You can't make anyone do anything and they can't stay on welfare forever. Centrist with Democratic leanings here so I don't know if my answer will count.

I'm not a Democrat but I felt like sticking my nose in anyway (sorry!) Just give them the opportunity to not starve. If they are hungry then they will become desperate and become too much trouble - unless you decide to exterminate them! Also, there is no point in expecting people to get jobs if they look so unattractive that no-one would want to hire them. They have to have access to enough clothing to make them presentable. Then make sure that the poorest workers have such a high standard of living that bludgers wish they did have a job. When our poorest workers have less to look forward to than our bludgers, that is when the misery starts.

I think if you solve that problem you have solved one of the problems that have plagued societies for millenia. There is no neat, clean answer. I like the suggestion from Peetee. Give them the opporunity not to starve.

Do we think a Democrat's point of view is different from that of someone from Chicago? Is the brain formed differently in these people. In the "what do we do"; I assume the "we" refers to those who are not democrats or from Chicago.

No offense taken. You've asked, I tried to explain. The wording of questions often have a tone of their own. Religion, race, and politics are just three subjects that can be touchy. In your question you used the words Democrats and lazy in the same sentence. Rightly or not some drew the inference that welfere and lazy people are because of Democtats / liberals. You could have asked "How do we reduce the number of people on our welfere roles" or "How can we create good jobs for more people"? Not to worry as you continue to post you will see this reaction again - sift out the respones that you find meaningful and trash the rest.

Is there a worker shortage? Don't we have enough useless goods and services as it is? But, to answer your question please read the following. Possibilities that would be good for them: (1) Increase a tax on luxuries so that the government could subsidize point number (2). (2) Increase minimum wage so that a person could live comfortably off of it. (3) Give them a say in the production and marketing of the good or service for which they are laboring. (4) Create corporations where profits only go to the workers. (a no executive or stockholder corporation) (5) Do not import goods that were made in labor conditions that would violate a developed country's labor laws. (creates GOOD jobs for our country) (6) Don't overpay paper-pushers who do not contribute to production at all. (7) Draft them into an army with the mission to annex land and policy making power from their oppressors. Possibilities that would be good for us: (1) enslave them (2) start a gladiator sport using them (3) start a war with a country to get rid of their poor people as well as ours.

Because it presumes that there are people who refuse to work for a living. Start by proving that these people exist. The problem with asking "When did you stop beating your wife" is problematic for the same reason and is intended to be a "no win" question. You're evil if you say a date (I stopped beating her 2 years ago) and you're evil if you say you didn't stop beating her. But the problem arises if you never beat her, or don't even have a wife. Right wing twits throw this trash out presuming that these people exist, and try to refocus attention on what to do about the presumed problem, without every having demonstrated that the problem is real.
