I am sorry to inform you that though this break may be quite short for u but still is as per ILO convention. So legally it is valid, but i do sympathize with u. Below is an extract from ILO convention on workers rights on work-rest hours: 3. Member States shall take measures to ensure that workers enjoy: * the minimum daily rest period of 11 consecutive hours per period of 24 hours; the minimum period of one rest day on average immediately following the daily rest period in every seven-day period; * for a daily period of work of more than six hours, a break as defined by the provisions of collective agreements, agreements concluded between social partners or national legislation; not less than four weeks' annual paid holiday, qualification for which shall be determined by reference to national practice/legislation; * an average weekly working period of not more than 48 hours, including the overtime for each seven-day period.

In Ohio, it was up to the individual employer to decide what they wish to do about breaks. You can call your state's employment bureau to find out what the rules are.

In my state it is mandated that one gets a 10-15 minute break, after 4 hours, and if someone works an 8 hour day, it's 2 breaks and a lunch break as well. Every state labor board has their own protocols.

a break AFTER a shift is not a break; it's clocking out. If they are making you work 6 hours straight with no break, they are probably breaking a rule. I would check it out with your individual state; as others have mentioned, it varies.
