Is what happened on Radio 2 with Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross really that bad? Do they deserve the punishments they got?

I dont think it was that bad. Irresponsible - yeah. BUT the media frenzy about the incident has sparked the row. At the time the show was aired I understand that only a handful of people complained about it. But then the hype happened, people 'listened again' online or wherever, then suddenly over 30,000 people have complained. I suspect that most of the complainants wouldnt have ordinarily listened to the show at all - they just jumped on the hyped-up bandwagon. Were their punishements fair? - mmm probably not - I think that the punishment was as hyped up as the incident itself.

i do think they went too far phoning someone's Grandfather to boast about sleeping with them, but I've seen worse every week, and if your Granddaughter is in a group called Satanic sluts you probably have an idea she isn't exactly Mary Poppins. I'm a big fan of Ross, though you can keep Bland, and the worry is now he will reign in his sense of humour, and also they are talking about clamping down on shows like Mock the week, so we will be left with shit like My Family and Keeping up appearances.

I think it was a stupid and unfunny prank but I think they were victims of their own industry and received a trial by media. It was blown out of all proportion and they are both paying dearly for it!

Well alot of what they said in the messages was actually editted out, there was alot worse stuff in there than what was aired. Although I do love Russel Brand, I'm not gonna blindly defend him, when people do something wrong, they need to be held accountable. To be honest, a suspension is going to be more like a holiday than anything else. Especially over christmas. The thing that's made me like Russel a little less (and dislike Ross more than I already did), is the fact that they are completely unrepentant over their actions. Their apologies seem completely insincere. It seems to me that their egos are so inflated that it doesn't matter what they do, they're invincible. And sadly, that seems to be true.
