  • Did you sign a new lease? The landlord can't raise the rent if there is an active lease.
  • It usually depends upon what is stated in your Rental agreement or Lease. On a Month to month rental, it's usually 30 days. However...in MY Rental Agreement, it is 60 days for EVERYTHING...I want you to move out...I have to give you 60 days notice, I want to raise the rent...60 days notice...YOU want to move out...you have to give ME 60 days notice. This came about because I live out of state, and I'm fearful that it could take longer for me to find acceptable tenants. ALSO...I am big on renting to tenants who have companion animals...and I don't place silly restrictions...like only one dog/cat or dog must weight 10 ounces or like the one I recently saw that cracked me up..."dog must not bark!" (what? EVER?) Then too...I have about 30 years experience training dogs...I already know that most large dogs tend to be COUCH - Potatoes...they are often a lot calmer than small breeds! Likewise two dogs or two cats, or a dog and one or two cats are more likely to be relaxed, calm and quiet when the owner is at work...they aren't so bored and lonely and so are usually less DESTRUCTIVE! But most Landlords don't understand or don't care about this...so giving my Tenants 60 days also allows them time to try and find a good Landlord in a good location and not just have to settle for whatever they can in a short period of time because they have a Bigger dog or a dog and a cat or two. I feel over the past 12 years of being a landlord, THIS solution as served to protect all of us with my rental.
