Yes a big problem with playing movies on game consoles is the extra wear and tear to the console. Movies have the disc spinning constantly, where as games are only spinning when more data needs to be loaded into the system's memory. The result is that watching a movie for two hours leads to MUCH more abuse to your game system than playing a game for two hours. Also DVD players are $30 at best buy. Why should you wear down a couple hundred dollar gaming system when you can spend less that the cost of one game to buy a standalone player? I don't. Game systems for games, DVD players for DVDs. Period.
