It might still work. But the canister actually needs to be recharged and checked every year or so for it to be guaranteed to be working. Contact your fire dept for more info.

Depends on the fire extinguisher. most quality extinguishers have a dial that gives you this information. Seven years is a long time for a cheap extinguisher. When in doubt, in this case, replace it for peace of mind.

Fire extinguishers require service every six and twelve years. at six years the powder is removed and sifted to ensure it's not caked up. the seals are checked or replaced, and all the discharge parts cleaned. then the extinguisher is refilled. at twelve years the extinguisher requires a hydrostatic test - it is put under pressure to check the integrety of the shell, usually around 500 psi.
