no i think they will do well with it. probably try to bring something new to the series too.

The new preview that is out looks pretty darn spiffy. I will definitely go see it.

My prediction is that casual fans will love it and anal retentive obsessed fans won't. I say this because they're already razing it sight unseen for the contradictions, inconsistencies and incongruities with the original series. Casual fans just want a good movie, obsessed fans want far more.

Abrams has admittedly chucked out 40 years of continuity to restart his own. In my opinion it is already ruined.
